Shreveport, LA's annual Cross Lake Floatilla returns in June and this year, wear your boots and cowboy hat with your suit and get ready for a 'Hoedown at the Lake!'

When is Cross Lake Floatilla this year?

Floatilla is back on Saturday, June 15, 2024, and I don't know about you, but just the thought of getting outdoors and enjoying Cross Lake has me excited! This year's event is the 33rd annual Cross Lake Floatilla. Yes, it's been around that long, but that's no surprise because it's a LOT of fun! Activities will center around the Lowe-McFarlane American Legion Post 14 located at 5315 S. Lakeshore Drive in Shreveport.

Grab your cowboy hat and get ready to pass a good time starting at 11 am. This year's theme is 'Hoedown at the Lake' and will include the requisite boat parade and poker run as well as music by 8 Track.

It's hard to believe, but 2019 was my first time going to Floatilla! Thanks to my dear friends James and Tracy Herrin, I had a great experience. A lot of people picture Floatilla as a bunch of boats tied off together with folks drinking, but it's so much more than that... even though that happens, too!

The poker run is my favorite part of the day. You make your way to different docks around the lake to make the best poker hand. Some of the locations are a little hard to find, but that's part of the fun and folks go all out with entertainment and decorations. Beware of lines for the last few docks when it's getting close to the 3 pm deadline to turn in your poker hands. Things can get super congested! Registration for the poker run and the boat parade is usually the Friday before Floatilla. Make sure to watch the Floatilla Facebook page for other poker hand buy-in locations leading up to the event because they've been known to sell out! While you're there, you can also pick up raffle tickets, t-shirts, and tanks to commemorate the day.

Fireworks will begin at dusk over the water. And one note before you head out on the water... Make sure to check your boat registration and get your updated Cross Lake sticker. Also, remember that the proceeds from the event benefit local charities that don't get a lot of local support! That means you'll be partying with a purpose.
