Governor Vows No Pay Raises for Officials Without Teacher Boost
Governor Jeff Landry is not happy about the vote of the people on amendment 3 at the polls over the weekend. Landry had been pushing for a permanent pay raise for teachers and that amendment would have taken care of that.
Landry made it clear he will not approve ANY pay raises until teachers get a raise.
The Governor is now linking pay increases for district attorneys and judges to giving teachers more money. He also will not approve any more money for statewide elected officials or lawmakers until we take care of our teachers.
Landry has declared “nobody in state government” would get a pay raise if public school teachers don’t receive one.
This is the first public comment from the governor since voters rejected all five constitutional amendments. The governor backed #3 which would have given K-12 school teachers and support staff a permanent pay raise.
The governor made his statement on social media while visiting Greenland as a special envoy for President Donald Trump.

Pay raises for other folks in state government have been progressing during the legislative session. But it looks like the governor will veto any pay raise measures that pass during the legislative session that wraps up on June 1.
Over the past couple of years, teachers and support staff have gotten stipends (one time payments), but that payment is not included in the budget for this year so that means teachers pay would actually go down by $2,000 from last year and support staff would not get a $1,000 stipend.
The stipend for teachers would cost about $200 million dollars.
