Where to Get Lifeguard Training in Shreveport-Bossier

There are several great options for getting the proper training. Whether you're looking to work at a local pool or just want to be prepared around water, these programs have you covered.

One of the most popular spots for lifeguard training is through SPAR (Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation). They offer American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification courses at locations like the Southern Hills and Airport Park pools. Courses include CPR/AED and First Aid training, and are usually open to anyone 15 and older.

In Bossier City, Bossier Parks and Recreation also offers lifeguard certification programs in partnership with the American Red Cross. These are typically held at the Mike Wood Memorial Park Pool, and cover all the essentials to get you job-ready by summer.

Those classes through the Red Cross typically don't start until later in the spring. If you want to get a head start, you might check out some of the year-round options.

The YMCA of Northwest Louisiana hosts lifeguard training throughout the year at their BHP Billiton location in Shreveport. The YMCA program is nationally recognized and includes hands-on water skills, rescue simulations, and emergency response practice.

The next sessions at the BHP Billiton YMCA for ages 15 and up will be held on February 20-22 and March 13-15. There is a $275 fee for non-members. Courses cover, CPR, AED, and first aid. 

If you have a teenager who is looking for a great summer job, you might think about getting them signed up for lifeguard training this spring. Several local pools will have openings for lifeguards this summer. And the pay is pretty good at most of these spots.
