Shreveport Police Arrest Man for July Shooting Death
Back in Late July Shreveport Police responded to reports of a shooting on North Market Street near the Superior Smoke Shop.
When SPD got to the scene, they found 16-year-old Hailey McDonald suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital by SFD where she later died from her injuries.
Detectives with SPD were able to find out that a large crowd had gathered in the shopping center parking lot . During the gathering, a group of vehicles pulled up in the street and the occupants started shooting at each other. Hailey was unfortunately hit during the gunfire exchange.
On August 18th, investigators were able to get an arrest warrant out for Jon Darius Scott for Illegal Use of Weapons connected to this case.
Last Friday, the SPD Homicide Unit along with the U.S. Marshals were able to execute a search warrant on a location where Scott was found. Scott was taken in to custody.
Detectives, during the investigation were able to get additional information linking Scott to the homicide of the teenage girl. Scott was charged with Second Degree Murder.
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department extends its gratitude to the U.S. Marshals Task Force and SRT for their vital assistance in apprehending this suspect.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and loved ones of Hailey McDonald as they continue to grieve this tragic and senseless loss."
