We know driving conditions are pretty treacherous all around Shreveport and Bossier. But there has been quite a mess to our east. Traffic on I-20 got completely gridlocked between Arcadia and Ruston. Motorists got stuck on the highway for about 30 hours.

The traffic is now moving, but it is still slow going.

Has the Backup on I-20 Been Cleared

State police report crews have made progress on I-20, but clearing the roadway is a step-by-step process.

Crews must start at the front of the traffic queue and work their way back, removing road hazards, broken-down vehicles, unattended vehicles, and stalled trucks to safely reopen the road. This takes time, but progress is being made.

Motorists are urged to stay off of I-20 headed to northeast Louisiana while this mess is cleaned up. The National Guard was called in to supply food and water to the stranded motorists.

The problem today is too many big rigs are still using the interstate and they are getting to the back of this logjam faster than the front of the mess can be cleared.

I-20 in the Shreveport - Bossier area is pretty clear, but there is still ice on many of the bridges and that is causing conditions to be dangerous. We also had several drivers run off of I-220 Wednesday morning. Most of these problems can be traced to folks driving too fast for the icy conditions.
