Earlier this week, hundreds of Shreveport kids received an essential part of the supplies they'll need to start the 2018-2019 school year - shoes.  KTBS reports that the 15th Annual Back to School Shoe Giveaway was a huge success, and will certainly help the kids that received the shoes start the school year on the right foot.

Rep. Barbara Norton spearheads the event at the Westport Avenue Walmart every year in order to help struggling parents get the necessities for their kids before school starts.  Families had to apply for the program a week in advance, and had to show proof of government assistance to qualify.  Not only did the kids receive a new pair of kicks, the boys also got a fresh new free haircut.

Representative Norton says that based on the need in Shreveport and the success of this initiative, she plans to continue the program next year.
