Residents of Shreveport and Caddo Parish have a chance to snag a free security camera for your home.

The Caddo Parish Doorbell Camera Program will begin accepting applications on Monday, March 14.

The goal of this program is to help battle crime across the parish.

Citizens who qualify will be able to get one doorbell camera including the installation. You will also get a one-year monitoring subscription.

Who Qualifies for a Free Camera?

The program is first come, first serve and is open to Caddo Parish residents who meet all of the following criteria:

The Caddo Parish Commission has set aside $100,000 for the purchase and installation of the doorbell cameras.

“This program is designed to give citizens and law enforcement an additional tool to help mitigate crime,” said Caddo Parish Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts. “The Caddo Parish Commission is committed to public safety and to protecting quality of life, and this program will aid in those endeavors and helping to provide peace of mind to our citizens,” said Gage-Watts.

How Many Cameras Will Be Available for Caddo Residents?

This will depend on the model selected and the monthly subscription costs. But the typical camera costs between $100 and $200 dollars. The monthly cost ranges from $3 for a Ring Camera to $12 a month for a Nest Camera. The $100,000 would fund 700 of the cheapest model cameras along with the basic monthly subscription of $3 a month for the first year which is included with this program.
