How to Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Shreveport/Bossier City

To a lot of people, celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. day, means enjoying a day off of work, but have you ever really thought about why you have the day off?

While MLK Day is a day off for banks, the post office and for 'sanitation engineers,' it's also a day that many dedicate to the service of others. After all, Dr. King was instrumental to our country during the Civil Rights Movement in that he espoused peaceful protest.

In addition to service activities to celebrate Dr. King's legacy today, you can also take part in Centenary College's 'Dream Week' events and attend the Krewe of Harambee's 20th annual parade in downtown Shreveport. Harambee is the oldest African American Mardi Gras krewe in Shreveport.  The parade begins and ends at Municipal Auditorium and will roll at 1 pm along Texas Street and Milam with marching bands, including Grambling's, dance groups, Zulu stilt walkers from New Orleans and more!
