Hot Temps Now Bring Another Heat Advisory For Shreveport
You should never kick a person when they are down. Obviously, that's a lesson Mother Nature was never taught!
At this writing at 1:45 am on Monday, June 19, there are still over 141,000 SWEPCO customers without electricity and the outlook is somewhat grim with the possibility of some of those houses remaining without power until approximately Saturday, June 24.
Meanwhile, a relentless heatwave has hit the Northwest Louisiana and East Texas area that is furthering punishing those without power.
In a statement released by the National Weather Service in Shreveport, we see that the heatwave will continue today with some dangerously high temperatures.
In the NWS statement we see that the affected area includes:
In Louisiana, Caddo Parish, Bossier Parish, Webster Parish, De Soto Parish, Red River Parish, Bienville Parish and Jackson Parish.
In Texas, Upshur County, Marion County and Harrison County.
A Heat Advisory will remain in effect on Monday, June 19 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. Heat index values between 105 and 109 degrees are expected for the forecasted area.
The NWS reminds us all:
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.
Please take the following Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay in an air-conditioned room
- Stay out of the sun
- Check up on relatives and neighbors.
- Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
