Took the family out last night to see the new movie “Here Comes the Boom” with Kevin James, Henry Winkler and Selma Hayek.  Wow!  I never recommend movies and here’s one about MMA fighting and the UFC and not only am I recommending it, I’d take my Sunday School class to see it.  No cursing as I recall and THEY PRAY in this movie.  Not just once, but TWICE.  They say AMEN and everything.   This one spoke volumes to me about prioritizing life and then seeing things through in spite of what appears to be the biggest obstacles.

Kevin James portrays a biology teacher at a failing high school faced with all kinds of money problems and he makes a stand against the system as they decide to eliminate the music class at the school calling it “too big of an expense.” Henry Winkler is the music teacher and he obviously loves his work and his dedication to his students is the driving factor influencing Kevin James desire to be a better person and a better teacher.  Additionally, Winkler has just learned his 48 year old wife is pregnant with their first child and he's facing losing the job he so passionately loves.

James' character, Steve Voss,  puts it all on the line and “in the ring” to fight mixed martial arts and uses his winnings to save the music program.  Kind of an improbable plot to say the least, but the message of the movie rings out loud and clear calling for all to do the right thing, no matter how much it hurts or how impossible the feat may seem.

It’s almost too good to be true.  Some MMA fighting with hard blows, a little blood, a great message and they pray?  I was hooked.  Oh, and the popcorn at Tinseltown was really good too.  It was a real treat.

I’m normally a little tougher to please when it comes to entertainment, but I think this one’s worth the price of the ticket.
