Heavily Travelled DeSoto Highway To Be Closed For Full Week
Just last week we got official word from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development that beginning this week, travel on LA 5 in DeSoto Parish would get a little tricky.
If you recall, the DOTD announced that on Monday, March 18, lane widths on LA 5 from Thomas Road to LA 3015 would decrease to 10 feet.
Now, as part of the entire $15.3 million project to repair this section of LA 5, the DOTD has informed motorists that not only would the lanes be narrower, beginning this Thursday, March 21, 2024, LA 5 from Thomas Road to LA 3015 (Longstreet) in DeSoto Parish will be closed.
This closure is scheduled to be in place until Thursday, March 28th, and is necessary to allow the contractor to replace a cross drain pipe as part of the ongoing LA 5 overlay project.
Local traffic north and south of the pipe location will be allowed access, though the roadway will be fully closed to through traffic.
The location of the pipe replacement is approximately 1.1 miles south of LA 3015.
As with all projects from the LA DOTD, this work will be done weather permitting so delays or extensions could be possible with inclement weather.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
