Happy Belly’s Shreveport: Is the Eggnog Custard the Best Holiday Treat?
Once the holiday season officially hits the 318, it seems like everyone falls into one of two camps. You’ve got the Pumpkin Spice connoisseurs who start their countdown in August, and then you’ve got people like me: the Eggnog enthusiasts.
I’ll be the first to admit that I am completely obsessed with eggnog. In my opinion, it’s the elite holiday flavor, and I’m on a personal mission to make sure everyone is as eager as I am to give it a fair shot.
I actually put this to the test recently at the office. One of my coworkers was absolutely convinced that eggnog was disgusting. He swore he hadn’t touched the stuff since he was a child, but we finally convinced him to give it another try. Let’s just say that at 60 years old, he had a total change of heart, one sip and all of a sudden, he’s a born-again eggnog lover!
Since I’ve made my love for the nog so public, people have been sending me recommendations for the best eggnog-flavored items in town. I’m used to seeing it snuck into lattes at Starbucks or mixed into holiday cocktails, but I stumbled upon something in Shreveport that genuinely shocked me: Eggnog Custard.
I decided to head over to Happy Belly’s on Youree Drive to see if it lived up to the hype. Now, we all know Happy Belly’s is famous for its incredible Italian Ice, but they seriously need to be recognized for this custard.
This treat did not disappoint. It had all those classic, warm eggnog spices I love, but the texture was on another level, so creamy and smooth that my biggest struggle was trying not to inhale the whole thing in thirty seconds.
It is, by far, the best eggnog-flavored treat I have ever had. If you’re looking to support a local eatery that is truly "doing the most" for the holidays, you have to check them out. You can find them at 5710 Youree Dr, Shreveport, LA 71105.
So, I have to ask: have you ever tried Eggnog Custard, or are you still stuck in your Pumpkin Spice ways? Trust me, one trip to the drive-thru and you might just become as obsessed as I am.
