The countdown to King Cake season is officially on, but Northwest Louisiana won’t have to wait until Carnival to get a taste of one of our region’s favorite sweet spots.

Lilah’s Bakery, a beloved local institution known far and wide for its legendary King Cakes, is kicking off an exciting new chapter. On Thursday, October 1, 2026, the bakery will host a grand re-opening celebration at its Shreveport storefront.

The festivities begin at 10:00 AM with an official ribbon-cutting alongside the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce. Immediately following the ceremony, early attendees will get an exclusive first look and taste of the refreshed bakery, the gift shop, and a lineup of delicious new dessert items.

If you can’t make the morning ribbon cutting, don’t worry—the bakery opens to the public from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Moving forward, Lilah’s will maintain regular weekly hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, serving up a mouthwatering rotation of fresh cookies, brownies, and dessert bars.

The Story Behind the Slice

The story of Lilah’s Bakery began in 2006 when owner Lisa Tike and her original business partner opened the doors, naming the bakery after Lisa’s daughter, Lila. Guided by a desire to celebrate Louisiana’s rich culinary culture, Lisa helped develop the signature King Cake recipe that locals know and love today.

Their start was humble; during their first official King Cake season in 2008, the bakery sold around 70 cakes. But Lisa’s philosophy was simple and uncompromising: offer the freshest King Cakes possible, made with flavors as uplifting as the spirit of Mardi Gras itself.

That winning formula quickly caught on. By the time Lisa assumed full ownership of the bakery in 2022, demand had exploded. During that same 2022 Carnival season, Lilah’s Bakery sold an astounding 22,800 King Cakes. To keep up with that incredible momentum, the Lilah’s family expands to about 25 dedicated crew members every Mardi Gras, with many returning year after year to help bake the magic happen.

Building on that massive success, Lilah’s expanded beyond Carnival, introducing wildly popular holiday-themed King Cakes for Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Through it all, Lisa and her team continue to use the exact same scratch-made recipes and traditional techniques that turned Lilah’s into a true local staple.
