Monday night the streets of Kiss Country will be flooded with fairies, knights in shining armor, ninjas and witches. These little Halloween celebrators will be dragging their plastic pumpkins door to door eyes aglow with the thrill of the week long sugar high in their near future. Here are a few tips to keep everyone safe and happy (except for the dentists, they hate this holiday).

  • Plan a route, especially if you do not plan on being with your children the entire time. (Maybe an older child is escorting the younger children) Stress the importance of keeping to the planned trick or treat route. Of course, the safest answer is to always have an adult escort with children.
  • Reflective tape: it comes in a few cool colors and makes you feel much more comfortable with the kiddos running around at dusk or in the dark. Slap it on their pumpkins and costumes for a little extra peace of mind.
  • Test costume makeup in small areas a day or two before you slather it all over your baby's face and end up with a crazy rash.
  • Flashlights, use them so you can see where you are going and people can see you.
  • Preach to the kids that it is never okay to enter a strangers home without you with them.
