Former State Representative Alphonse Jackson Jr. has died. He was 87.

Jackson made history in 1972 as the first African American elected to Caddo Parish since Reconstruction when he won the state House District 2 seat, as reported by KTBS.

He was also a civil rights leader and educator who played in intricate role in integrating Caddo Parish schools.
