Check Out This Awesome Kayak Trail A Short Drive From Shreveport
If you're looking for some good, clean family fun in the sun, try kayaking!
Over the weekend, some friends and I went to Karnak, TX to hit the kayak trails along Big Cypress Bayou.
Karnak is an easy drive from the Shreveport area and is the home to Ole Mossy's Up River Kayak Rentals and Boat Tours. The owners were great and the prices were affordable. My brother brought his own kayak and only had to pay $5 to launch. A single-person kayak cost $30 to rent for two hours. A tandem or two-person kayak cost $45 to rent for two hours. They also have half and full-day rentals available.
I'm almost ashamed to say that even though I bought my first kayak a year ago, this is the first time I've actually been out on the water. I decided the fishing kayak I got from a friend of mine was a little too heavy for me, so I gave it to another friend and bought myself an inflatable kayak. It's a heck of a lot lighter. However, I didn't bring it on this trip because I didn't want to mess with blowing it up while everyone else was renting. Don't judge me!
Needless to say, we had an absolute blast and thankfully, no one ended up in the water.
The owners of Ole Mossy's provided us with a map before launching and we were able to check a pretty big section of Big Cypress Bayou, the head of Benton Lake, and Stumpy Lake.
The scenery was breathtaking and I can't think of a better way to get out and get some exercise without feeling like you're exercising.
This is my favorite picture from the entire excursion. That's me and my big brother, Geof.
That's me navigating the entrance into Stumpy Lake. You wouldn't believe the view. The Cypress trees are all within arm's reach and we even got to see an egret and tons of turtles!
10/10, we highly recommend! Do you have a favorite kayaking trail? Tell us! We'd love to check it out!
