Chocolate Crocodile at Louisiana Boardwalk: A Local Hidden Gem
There is a fresh wave of hope washing over the Louisiana Boardwalk these days. With new culinary concepts making waves, like The Brine, brought to us by one of Shreveport’s most beloved chefs, Gabe Balderas, it feels like our riverfront is gearing up for its next great chapter. Sure, strolling past empty storefronts on a quiet evening can still give off phantom ghost-town vibes, but if you look closely, there are bright spots that have been holding down the fort all along.
Case in point: The Chocolate Crocodile
Opening its doors back in May 2005, this sweet sanctuary has quietly weathered every storm thrown its way. From shifting retail trends to the post-pandemic quiet, this spot didn't just survive, it celebrated a massive 20-year milestone at 460 Boardwalk Blvd.
Walking in feels like discovering a delicious secret society. When I slipped inside just six minutes before closing on a Friday night, I fully expected an empty counter. Instead, the shop was buzzing. Where are all these caramel apple lovers coming from? I finally ordered, took my first bite, and immediately realized two things: these are hands-down the best dipped apples I have ever had in my life, and I cannot believe it took me this long to step inside.
That Monster Croc Pecan Apple is absolute perfection, a crisp, juicy crunch wrapped in thick caramel, coated in fresh nuts, and finished with a rich layer of chocolate that seals it all together like a delicious cape. (And don't even get me started on the Snickers version!)
As the Boardwalk rebuilds, let’s make sure we show up for the legacy spots that kept the lights on. Next time you are on the riverfront, go love on them, grab a treat, and support a local favorite.
