This weekend, animal lovers in the Ark-La-Tex will get a rare opportunity to peek behind the curtain at one of the world's premiere chimpanzee sanctuaries.  Chimp Haven is a 200 acre paradise that basically operates as a retirement home for these incredible animals who have served mankind through scientific research.  This Saturday, Chimp Haven is hosting Chimpanzee Discovery Day.

The public is usually prohibited from visiting the close to 300 chimps that call this little slice of heaven just outside of Keithville home, but 4 times a year the sanctuary opens its doors in an effort to educate the public on this majestic creatures.  When you go, you'll be able to observe the chimps in their natural habitats and see how the fantastic staff help these chimps get a taste of the "wild" life.  The event runs from 9 a.m. – noon, and no reservations are required.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6 to 12 - kids 5 and under get in free!

Even though the National Institutes on Health (NIH) officially ended testing on one of our closest genetic relatives in 2015, there are still hundreds of chimps living today that have spent most of their life in labs undergoing tests.  Don't miss your chance to see and support an organization that strives to give these chimps a life worth living.  Find out more here.
