Hey gang, it's Gary again and before we ever begin the discussion, I'm a gun owning member of the NRA. So, while you might think my views are slanted, I'm thinking that we've really gone overboard on things since the senseless shootings at Sandy Hook.  People are truly overreacting and causing additional problems where there's absolutely no ill intent.  Two separate cases have recently come to light to illustrate the point.  Three 6-year olds were suspended this month in two separate incidents in Maryland for playing with pretend guns "made" from their thumbs and index fingers.

The parents are upset. In one case, a school psychologist says there was no malicious intent. Other mental health professionals say that at the age of six, children cannot even understand why adults are upset when they point a finger and go “pow, pow.”

In another case from just the last few days, a 5-year-old Pennsylvania girl who told another girl she was going to shoot her with a pink Hello Kitty toy gun that blows soapy bubbles has been suspended from kindergarten.  The "Hello Kitty" pistol in question is just like the one pictured above.

Her family has hired an attorney to fight the punishment, which initially was 10  days for issuing a 'terroristic threat.' But her punishment was reduced to two  days after her mother met with school officials and had the incident dropped to  'threatening to harm another student,' which apparently carries a lesser  punishment.

I completely understand the tension that those affected by these shootings must be feeling, but this type of recourse, in my opinion, is completely out of line.  What's next, outlawing sale of water guns or putting rubber band gun manufacturers up on charges?
