No Outdoor Fires: Caddo Parish Joins Growing List of Burn Bans

According to The Weather Channel's latest forecast, though there is a slight chance for a morning shower today, the sun will pop back out this afternoon and the forecasted high temperature this afternoon is 79.  Tonight's forecast calls for a partly cloudy sky and a low of 53.

Sounds wonderful for whatever outdoor activities you might have planned, as long as those activities don't include any type of open flame.  The lack of precipitation we've experienced for an extended period, coupled with lower humidity and high winds, is a perfect recipe for wildfire.

Because of this dangerous situation, Caddo Parish has just issued a parish-wide burn ban, which prohibits any type of outdoor burning until further notice.

The burn ban issued in Caddo Parish is just the latest in a number of bans issued in Louisiana. According to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry  Natchitoches Parish, Winn Parish, Caldwell Parish and Rapides Parish have also put burn bans in effect.

The LDAF Fire Danger Map shows extreme fire danger in Caddo and Bossier parishes, though Bossier hasn't placed a burn ban for the area.  The map also shows very high fire danger in Webster, Claiborne, Bienville and Lincoln parishes, though none of these have implemented burn bans either.

Though we can't confirm that it's official at the time of this writing, it would appear a burn ban is in effect, or at least forthcoming, for DeSoto Parish in North Louisiana.  On a recent Facebook post, DeSoto Parish Fire District #1 suggests a fire ban began yesterday, January 1, 2026.

It also appears the burn bans aren't exclusive to Louisiana.  An article from ksla.com indicates that burn bans have also been instituted in Bowie County and Harrison County in east Texas.

Obviously this is a fluid situation and updates, including new burn bans, could continue to roll in, so please keep checking back here for additional information.
