It's hard to think of an organization better for young people than the Boy Scouts of America.  Just look at the code they live by: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.  I don't know about you, but I didn't see a single thing on that list that kids and young adults don't need to practice.  It's like boot camp except the goal isn't to train you into a fighting unit - it's to help you become an awesome human.  The other big difference from military training is that the kids love it!

Boy Scouts in Shreveport Are Doing More Than Bettering Themselves, They're Betting the World

If you are new to the world of scouting, just know that there are different levels.  The youngest to enroll are "Cub Scouts," then come the Webelos, and once a scout obtains their "Arrow of Light" they become a full-fledged Boy Scout.  Above that are several ranks that end with the highest of them all: Eagle Scout.  In order to achieve the pinnacle of ranks in the organization, you have to complete all of the requirements (it's a lot) and you must complete an "Eagle Scout Project."  This usually comes in the form of something selfless that truly benefits our fellow man.  While there are a lot of ways to do this, Shreveport Life Scout Jeffrey Schneider wants to hit a home run.

Shreveport Life Scout Jeffrey Schneider's Eagle Scout Project Involves a Lot of Drilling in Honduras

Shreveport Life Scout Jeffrey Schneider is excited about earning his Eagle Scout rank, and has planned a pretty ambitious project that will not only get him there - it will literally improve the life of 300-400 people in Honduras.  Schneider, a proud member of Shreveport's Troup 15, wants to dig a well in Honduras for hundreds of people who live there without access to clean water.  Currently, villagers there must walk approximately 3 miles to get water that is in no way clean.

Shreveport Life Scout Jeffrey Schneider Needs Your Help to Bring Clean Water To Honduras

Schneider has teamed up with The Simple Church and the Honduras Well Project to organize a trip to the village that is in desperate need of clean water.  Once there, Schneider and his team will not only drill the well - they'll spend a significant amount of time teaching the residents how to care for the well, basic hygiene, and basically how to live healthier through clean water.  As an added benefit, the children living there will be able to go to school.  Once clean water is readily available, the kids primary job will shift from fetching water to getting an education.

To be able to make this amazing change a reality, this project and the people who will depend on it need your help.  A Go-Fund-Me page has been set up to collect donations for the trip and expenses.  Schneider says that he has until Valentine's Day (February 14th, 2022) to hit his goal of $11,500.  Currently, donations on the site only total $800.  If successful the worthwhile journey to bring clean water to Honduran families will start in March.
