The Bossier Sheriff’s Office will join LifeShare Blood Centers to host a “Cuffs & Hoses” promotion blood drive this Friday, May 29, at the Viking Drive Substation at 2510 Viking Drive in Bossier City.

The drive will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the mobile donor coach in the substation parking lot.  Law enforcement officers and fire fighters are encouraged to donate blood, and each donor will be given a special promotional t-shirt.  All others are also welcome to give blood, and all participants will receive the complimentary t-shirt.

“We have seen first-hand in recent days why these blood drives are so important,” said Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington.  “On our own deputies, 33-year-old Barrett Lovell, has been battling acute myeloid leukemia since October, and he has had multiple blood transfusions.  I’d encourage all of our deputies, staff, other law enforcement agencies and fire departments to join us on May 29 to give blood to help guys like Barrett and countless others who need our help.”

Barrett underwent a cord blood transplant at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in early March and continues to recover.

Donors should be 16 years or older, in good health and meet height, weight and donor eligibility requirements.  Be sure and have a good meal and increase fluids before you donate.  For further questions about donating blood, visit lifeshare.org.
