Free Camp From Bossier Sheriff Will Teach Kids Shooting Skills

Bossier Sheriff's Deputy James Lonadier wants to help teach the youth of Bossier Parish better shooting and hunting skills, and he's found a way to do it for absolutely no charge.

Lonadier says of the Bossier Sheriff's Office Summer Shooting Sports Camp, “As a former SRO, this is just another way I can give back to the community.”

According to the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office, this free "Summer Shooting Sports Camp" is open to all Bossier Parish students between 10 and 14 years of age with a number of available dates for the three-day camps.

Still Plenty of Slots Available For a Number of 3-Day Camp Dates

Those dates are June 7-9, June 21-23, June 28-30, July 5-7, July 12-14, July 19-21, July 26-28 and the final camp August 2-4.

All the camps are slated to be held at the new Bossier Sheriff’s Shooting Sports Complex in Plain Dealing.

Students will be taught the Louisiana Hunter's Education Course, which is the first step for them to legally hunt in Louisiana, and is a combination of classroom work and practical hands-on shooting drills.

The shooting drills will be a combination of BB Target Rifle, Archery, and 20-guage shotgun.

Additionally, this year, there is a new, free one-day camp to be held for students who already have their Hunters Education License, but would love to sharpen their skills.

Of the camp, Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington says, “This is a great opportunity for our deputies to interact with the youth of the parish and to teach them how to properly handle a firearm.”
