Seeing the magnificence of the B-52 in the skies above Shreveport and Bossier City is always inspiring.  For me, it's a very loud and large reminder of this nation's commitment to protect itself.  It's mind blowing to imagine what it must be like to command the thousands of men and women doing some of the most important work ever.  That's why the position of Honorary Commander at Barksdale AFB is such an honor, and as of right now - the position is open.

In an effort to connect the base's mission with the community, the Air Force base that plays host to the 2nd Bomb Wing is looking for community leaders to serve as the Honorary Commander.  I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to order any military strikes, but it will most certainly be the experience off a lifetime none the less.  One of the main goals off the program is to shed light on what is assuredly one of the most complex and essential jobs in the world.  I can hardly imagine a cooler experience than walking the tarmac as Commander, honorary or otherwise.

If you know of someone show fits the bill, nominate them by reaching out to Barksdale Public Affairs by calling (318) 456-1015 or sending email to 2BW.PA@us.af.mil
