A Shreveport Homicide Suspect Has Been Shot & Killed
Derek Swanson, a man wanted for a murder in Shreveport and for shooting at Caddo Parish Sheriff's Deputies, is dead. Caddo Parish Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick says the suspect was shot and killed by Deputies.

A man wanted for shooting at a Caddo deputy and killing a Shreveport woman is dead, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.
Derek Swanson, 28, was fatally injured during a shootout with law enforcement after he broke into a house in the 8700 block of South Lakeshore Drive.
Swanson had been on the run from authorities since Monday afternoon when he shot at a Caddo deputy. The deputy was trying to question Swanson about his involvement in a Shreveport homicide this past week.
Deputies had been in the area of Jefferson Paige Road since yesterday searching for Swanson on ground and by air. At 12:13 p.m. today, a female called the Sheriff's Office to report a burglary in progress. The woman said someone was breaking into her home while she was inside. One deputy and three state troopers who had been helping with the search responded to South Lakeshore. They had just arrived outside when Swanson exited the house and fired at the deputy and one of the troopers. All four officers returned fire. Swanson died at the scene. None of the officers was injured.
While on the run, Swanson broke into an occupied house near Jefferson Paige Road where he attempted to steal a rifle. At another location, he tried steal a vehicle.
Swanson was being sought for allegedly murdering his girlfriend in Highland last week and shooting at deputies yesterday afternoon in the 8200 block of Jefferson Paige Road. K-9s, drones, roadblocks and other tactics were being used to find Swanson after he shot at and fled from authorities yesterday afternoon.
