Imagine a time when boxing was as big, as popular, and even more glamorous than the NFL is today. Well, in the America of forty years ago, it was. And it was forty years ago, October 1, 1975, that perhaps the greatest - and certainly the most glamorous - fight of all took place: Ali - Frazier III, "The Thrilla In Manilla"

It was the third meeting between or Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Frazier had won a decision in their first bout, highlighted by a fifteenth round knockdown of the great Ali. Muhammad had won the rematch, also getting a unanimous call from the judges. Their third fight, in the hundred degree heat of the Phillippines, was one for the ages, one that Ali called, "The closest I've ever been to dying."
