There are very few reminders of America's immense military might as powerful as the B-52 Stratofortress.  In the Shreveport / Bossier City area, we may have grown used to seeing these gigantic metal war birds absolutely owning the skies above us - but in certain parts of the world they send a very clear message.

That message was signed, sealed, and delivered to Iran's leaders today as 2 of these magnificent and terrifying, long-range and nuclear capable bombers out of our very own Barksdale Air Force Base buzzed the edge of Iranian airspace.  I am absolutely positive the sight of these "freedom delivery vehicles" raised eyebrows and pulses of radar operators based near the border - and that was the point.

According to NBC News, the 2 BUFFs took a 36-hour joyride halfway across the world to remind leaders there that "aggressive actions" towards U.S. interests and allies in the region would not be a wise move.  Just to drive the point home further, the B-52s were joined by several other military aircraft from our allies in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar.

According to the statement from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the risk of an Iranian "miscalculation" is higher than normal right now.  The mission was undertaken to remind them that no matter how chaotic things in our country are right now, we are always ready to lay the proverbial smack down should the need arise - and, thanks to the amazing men and women who serve in our armed services, we can do it at a moments notice.
