Due to health problems brought on by smoking, the Red-Headed Stranger will be hanging up his weed hat. Willie was quoted as saying:

"I have abused my lungs quite a bit in the past, so breathing is a little more difficult these days and I have to be careful," Nelson said.

The Highwayman had a lot of years to smoke marijuana though. The 86 year old Nelson credits smoking weed for giving him a second chance at life. Willie smoked filter-less cigarettes and drank heavily in to his 40's and seems to think switching to marijuana may have given him more years on the earth.

This news comes after several of Nelson's shows had to be cancelled due to his breathing problems. The lineup for his latest tour heavily featured his sons and other family members singing and playing seemingly to relieve the aging outlaw from having to carry a whole show.

Our man Willie has not lost a bit of hope though. And I'd say it's safe to assume he hasn't given up marijuana completely. But, he's definitely done smoking it.

Despite rumors about an impending death, the 86-year-old said he's "glad to be here" and "lucky to be here."
