Volunteers for Youth Justice serves nearly 1300 students each year and many of the absences are the result of problems that can be corrected. Director Kelli Todd says they find things like youngsters with no transportation, medical troubles or no uniforms.

The folks at CHRISTUS have stepped in to help reach these children. The $100,000 will be used for the Truancy Assessment Service Center Program. CHRISTUS hopes they can make a real difference in the community. VYJ will use the money to add another officer servicing the schools.

The goal is to reach these youngsters and find ways to keep them from missing school.
