My heart absolutely sank when I saw the news circulating on social media this week. Vine Books & Vinyl in Downtown Shreveport will officially be closing its doors on June 30th.

For those of us who love the local culture scene, this unique venue at 620 Texas Street (Suite 100) was always so much more than just a place to buy a good book or discover a new record. It served as a beautiful, vibrant gathering space in the heart of downtown Shreveport, a neighborhood where we desperately want to see local businesses survive, thrive, and grow.

Vine Books & Vinyl didn’t specify the exact reasons behind the decision to close their doors on their original Facebook announcement; their goodbye message was full of gratitude for the community that embraced them over the last two years. In a heartfelt statement, the staff shared:

"While our time in the community was short, these past two years have truly flown by. We’ve had the honor of hosting everything from birthday celebrations to anniversaries, from Cereal Saturdays with the kids to unforgettable moments with authors and artists who trusted us to share their work with the world. This space has always been about more than books and music. It has been about connection, culture, and creating moments that matter."

The story isn't quite over yet, though. The staff promised a series of upcoming closeout events over the next few weeks, giving Shreveport one last chance to gather, reminisce, and celebrate the chapter they built together. To close out their announcement, they left us with a perfect quote from author Frank Herbert: “There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story.”

Let’s make sure we show them some major love before June 30th.
