This weekend, the weather will be perfect for making memories on the water.  With a bit of cloud cover and some pretty awesome temperatures, conditions will be optimal for fishing in Texas.  What could possibly make it better?  It's free!

If you've had a hard time coming up with an excuse to grab a fishing rod and a couple of  hours of peace and quiet while you hunt for the big one - try this on for size:  This Saturday is Free Fishing Day in Texas.  The first Saturday in June every year is set aside to celebrate the great outdoors and one of the best sports/hobbies/things to spend your money on in the universe!

To aid in your fishing adventure this weekend, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has several resources available to you.  For new anglers, they have updated their Learn to Fish page with tons of simple instructions and tips to get you started.  There's also a handy locator tool to help you find a good community fishing lake to drop a line in the Lonestar State - you can find it here.

This angler's holiday is actually the kickoff of National Fishing and Boating week (June 6th - 14th).  The week long fish-a-thon concludes with a similar holiday in Louisiana.  June 13th-14th is free fishing weekend in the Sportsman's paradise.  Play your cards right, and you can put off buying a fishing license for 2 more weeks.
