The state of Texas shares a border with Louisiana, which automatically makes the safety of Texas seem a lot better by comparison. Louisiana has cities that regularly top the nation in "most dangerous" and "most violent" lists, something that Texas cities don't normally see.

But that doesn't mean all cities and areas of Texas are totally safe. Then again, there's really no state that has complete safety in all cities. But Texas seems to have some cities that would be high on any states "most dangerous" list.

According to research from World Population Review, the city that lands as the "most dangerous" in Texas sees a lot of crime for the population of the city. The research says these are the crime numbers for the top city on their list:

"There are 1,294 violent crimes per 100,000 residents and 6,196 property crimes per 100,000 residents."

So how does World Population Review get their data? Well, it comes from the FBI. They use the same metrics that every city reports to the federal agency, and then put them against the populations of the cities in Texas. Here's how they explain their methodology:

"To determine the most dangerous cities Texas, the FBI’s data for violent crimes and property crimes were looked at. Crime rates are expressed as the number of incidents per 100,000 people. The state of Texas had 438 violent crimes and 2,562 property crimes per 100,000 residents. The state has 224 police officers for every 100,000 residents."

Now right away, I expected one city to be listed as #1 on this list. But I was actually wrong. You may have thought of the same city, and if we were thinking of the same one, it doesn't even make the list. The city I instantly thought of was El Paso.

For some reason, I feel like I have heard that El Paso is a dangerous city. But according to this research, it doesn't fall within the 10 Most Dangerous in the state.

So who does? Well, here are the cities ranked out based on the data from World Population Review:

These Are The Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in Texas in '23

We're all aware there are dangerous cities and towns in our state. Surprisingly this list is made up mostly of smaller cities, suburbs, and towns, aside from Houston, TX, which lands at No. 7.
