Generally when you think of Mardi Gras parades, you think of big floats with people throwing beads. However, on Fat Tuesday, you can take part in a traditional New Orleans style walking parade in downtown Shreveport!

Join other Mardi Gras revelers Mardi Gras evening, Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 6:30pm. The 2nd Annual Fat Tuesday in Shreve Town Walking Parade will leave from the front of the historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium.

Organizer Cynthia Keith describes it as a parade as being in the tradition of a New Orleans Jazz Funeral procession. Here's what the invitation says:

Come dressed for a wild and wacky time on Fat Tuesday, Feb 13th, you ARE the parade!  The free half mile parade includes 6 interactive stops that you will be a part of.

We’ll meet at 6:30pm and dance our way into the Oakland Cemetery in the tradition of a New Orleans Jazz Funeral procession at 7pm. We’ll honor those that never had a funeral, those that died from the Yellow Fever epidemic. Enjoy a dramatic role-play and interpretive dance in the new gazebo, then onto the Yellow Fever Mound for a blessing of the mass grave.

Other interactive stops include the Ogilvie Weiner Mansion to hear its history and enjoy a recreation of a song from a famous personality that once played in its upscale Florentine Nightclub and the Logan Mansion for a brief history and special Mardi Gras throws tossed from its balcony. The walking parade continues through the parking lot between Austen Place and the Municipal with a few more presentations along the way including a flash mob you won’t want to miss. The event winds up at Minicine Event Venue at 846 Texas Avenue to enjoy Karaoke, a little Voodoo, with yellow edibles and beverages.
