The new law - set to take effect on Aug. 1 - makes possession of up to 14 grams of marijuana a misdemeanor crime carrying a fine up to $100 with no possibility of jail time, even for repeat offenses.
The Shreveport City Council is set to consider a change to marijuana laws in the city. The change would "implement a fine of $50.00 and/or community service in lieu of imprisonment for simple possession of marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol, or chemical derivatives thereof."
