While officers at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland reportedly waited outside for the first few minutes of the shooting, others were rushing to the scene. Now SWAT officers from the town of MIramar which is just south of Parkland have been suspended. The officers were suspended because they didn't have permission to respond to the school shooting.

The Sun Sentinel reports the local police union sees it different saying, "While it may have been a violation of policy to not notify their supervisors that they were going there, their intentions were brave and heroic, I think." The two officers who have been suspended are Detective Jeffrey Gilbert and Detective Carl Schlosser.

Following the chaos of the aurora shooting rules and standards have been put in place to limit the number of police on scene so medical responders are able to quickly arrive to give care. Even though the officers didn't fully follow the procedure they were following their instinct to help in a time of need!
