Stonewall Police Department May Soon Be No More
Because of financial issues the town of Stonewall faced two choices; either abolish their police department or pay a very large property tax. KSLA reports that the citizens decided to do away with their PD after fighting to keep them just three years ago.
On Friday Governor John Edwards made it official that the town of Stonewall can officially do away with their PD. The DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office will officially take over the responsibility of policing the town. The issue KSLA reports is not just paying for the departments upkeep but also paying for the officers retirement would require the town to pay at least $100,000 a year in the future.
