As an experienced Mardi Gras reveler, I have a closet full of gowns, so I know a thing or two about going shopping for dresses! After all, my husband Keith and I have served together as royalty twice as Duke and Duchess and went to darn near every single event on the calendar.

Now, with Keith representing the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux as King this year, you know we’ll be doing it all over again!

I recently got to spend some time at Sloan's Formals trying on different looks for Mardi Gras. I’ll be honest. I DON’T like dress shopping, but the gang at Sloan’s made it as painless as possible… and dare I say, fun?

Before I knew it, Miss Patty and the girls had me in a changing room full of different gowns, even some I wouldn’t have had the courage to try on my own… and lo and behold, they were right! Gowns I thought would never work looked much better on me than I ever thought possible — even though I draw the line at formal jumpsuits, which they carry as well if you’re into that kind of thing!

Here are my top four picks:

1) Blue ballgown

3) Black low-back gown

4) Black gown — with pockets!

I'd love to hear your opinion!

I really fell in love with both of the black dresses. I felt they were the most flattering on me. I’m still a little too self-conscious for the strapless gowns. I’m down around 40 pounds, but I still have more to go. When I reach my goal, then watch out world!

If you already have a few gowns in your closet, don't forget Sloan's has great accessories, too.
