During his practice round Tuesday for this week's US Open golf tournament, David Toms noticed a man in the gallery sporting a U.S. Open T-shirt with the club’s famous squirrel logo. Toms took a liking to the shirt and asked caddie, Scott Gneiser, to ask the fan, Matt Dixon, where he made the purchase.

There was one tiny problem: The T was of the vintage variety, from the last Open to grace the legendary Oakmont course in 2007. Toms then offered to buy the shirt off Dixon's back, but the fan hesitated.

But Toms was persistant. Two holes later Toms spotted Dixon again. This time, he was wearing a white t-shirt and waving the original in David's direction.

Encouraged, Toms approached Dixon and the bartering began. An autographed glove and a $100 later, the transaction was complete.

Dixon said he planned to use the cash to purchase more souvenirs. Meanwhile Toms new shirt, an XL, is a couple of sizes large for the PGA vet.

And after wheeling and dealing with the 13-time Tour winner, Dixon says he's rooting for David...all the way.
