City of Shreveport Water & Sewerage Department Repair Update
Shreveport residents are entering another day of the ongoing water crisis, but there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. Following the rupture of a massive 42-inch water main near the Cross Lake water plant over the weekend, the city has been in a race against time.
Because the break occurred underwater, crews have faced the grueling task of submerged repairs while simultaneously installing a temporary bypass to stabilize the system.
While you were sleeping, the City of Shreveport Water & Sewerage Department continued to push through the construction phase of these critical repairs. Recent updates from the city include behind-the-scenes footage of the overnight effort, showing the scale of the "round-the-clock" commitment required to fix a 42-inch line.
The community’s experience remains a mixed bag. On social media, some residents report that water pressure has returned to a near-normal flow, while others, particularly in the western part of the city, claim they have seen little to no improvement.
Local businesses are still playing it safe, with many restaurants continuing to serve canned sodas and bottled water to patrons.
According to official city channels, the system is beginning to stabilize. While most areas are seeing improved pressure, crews are still working to release trapped air in the lines that may be hindering flow in certain neighborhoods.
Despite the progress, the Voluntary Boil Advisory remains in place citywide as a precaution. City officials expressed gratitude for the public’s patience, noting that while major improvements are arriving faster than initially promised, the road to both temporary and permanent repairs is still active.
