Shreveport Police Arrest 11 for DWI on Easter Weekend
The Shreveport Police Department was very busy taking enforcement action against impaired drivers over the holiday weekend.
The first arrest came after officers contacted Kelsey Smith (10-20-98) on April 7th around 12:00 a.m. after he was involved in a major accident on West 70th Street at I-49. During the contact with police, it was found that he was believed to be intoxicated.
The second arrest came after officers contacted Bellinda Johnson (4-4-77) on April 8th at 12:15 a.m. after she almost struck an SPD vehicle at Hilry Huckabee and Russell Road. During the contact with police, it was found that she was believed to be intoxicated.
The third arrest came after officers contacted Chase Hattaway (1-28-86) on April 8th at 1:15 a.m. during a traffic stop in the 200 block of Fannin Street. During the contact with police, it was found that he was believed to be intoxicated.
The fourth arrest came after officers were contacted by a citizen to report a vehicle that has run off the road and was in their yard in the 1100 block of Piermont Road on April 8th around 3:58 a.m. Shreveport Police responded and arrested Quadrick Frazier (5-1-77) as he was reportedly found to be intoxicated.
The fifth arrest came after officers contacted Ariel Williams (11-30-2000) on April 8th at 6:30 a.m. during a traffic stop for reportedly running a red light in the 300 block of Marshall Street. During the contact with police, it was found that she was believed to be intoxicated.
The sixth arrest came after officers contacted Jose Pinero (8-18-81) on April 9th at 1:45 a.m. during a traffic stop for speeding in the 200 block of Commerce Street. During the contact with police, it was found that he was believed to be intoxicated.
The seventh arrest came after officers contacted Jason Richardson (1-1-94) on April 9th at 4:18 a.m. Richardson was contacted by police as a suspicious vehicle as a passerby stated his vehicle was parked in the turning lane at East Kings Highway and Southfield Road.
The eighth arrest came after officers were contacted by Ochsner Hospital Security to report a suspected impaired driver on their property on April 9th around 4:58 a.m. Shreveport Police responded and arrested Danashia Morrow (4-28-01) as she was reportedly found to be intoxicated.
The ninth arrest came after officers contacted Demitris Purvis (11-1-72) on April 9th at 5:10 a.m. Purvis was contacted by police as he had fallen asleep at the wheel in the middle lane of I-20 East between Jewella and Monkhouse exits.
The tenth arrest came after officers contacted Everett Payne (9-4-94) on April 9th at 6:17 a.m. Payne was contacted by police as a welfare concern as a passerby stated his vehicle was parked at a traffic light at Hollywood Avenue and I-49.
The eleventh arrest came after officers contacted Derrithe Ferguson (5-1-82) on April 10th at 2:22 a.m. Ferguson was contacted by police as he had fallen asleep at the wheel at Centenary Boulevard and Olive Street.
All persons named were charged with DWI. All accused are innocent until proven guilty.
One person is killed, on average, about every 45 minutes in a drunk-driving crash, totaling more than 11,000 lives lost each year.
