Shreveport Philanthropist Virginia Shehee Remembered

Shreveport civic leader Virginia Shehee died last evening at age 91 after a long illness.

Mayor Ollie Tyler's office has released a statement saying Shehee's legacy will remain in the heart of the city that she served so well.

"The City of Shreveport has lost a servant leader with the death of Mrs. Shehee. She was a true friend and supporter who not only touched my life, but the lives of so many in this city and state," said Mayor Tyler. "She had a strong vision of what Shreveport could become and she was not afraid to get knee-deep in the trenches to make this city a better place for everyone. I will miss her generous heart and ability to connect people from all walks of life. My prayers are
with her family and all those who were touched by her life."

Sheehee has made many contributions to the community, and was a major supporter of health care, the arts and education. Her family owns Kilpatrick Life Insurance and Rose-Neath Funeral Homes. She was also the first woman elected to the state senate who didn't succeed her husband.

A funeral service for Shehee is set for 11AM Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Shreveport.
