Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins has made his pick for the next leader of the Shreveport Fire Department. In a release this afternoon, Mayor Perkins announced his selection of Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief Clarence Reese, Jr as the next Fire Chief.

Reese is a 20-year veteran of the Shreveport Fire Department, who started his career as a fight fighter and EMT. Over the last 4 years, Reese served as a Public Information Officer for the Department, before being elevated to Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief in 2021.

In the release, Mayor Perkins said:

“Chief Reese has a vision and plan for the future of the Shreveport Fire Department. His nearly two decades of service displays his commitment to our citizens on a daily basis. Fostering longstanding relationships in the community will be crucial for recruitment efforts and building a stronger department for citizens.”

In addition to his work with the Shreveport Fire Department, Reese is a certified law enforcement officer. He is a reserve Deputy with the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office.

Reese also made a statement in the City's press release. He said:

“I’m invested in creating a safer community for all families living in this city. Shreveport has been my home since 1996 and it is where I’m raising my children. I’m dedicated to ensuring that the Shreveport Fire Department delivers quality services to those who are in need of our care. Developing a plan for this department that will best serve future generations is what I plan to do in my new role as fire chief.”

Reese is a member of the International Association of Firefighters, Government Finance Officers Association, and National Information Officers Association.
