A Shreveport man has been sentenced to 170 years at hard labor on three counts of child molestation and one count of child pornography by District Court Judge Donald Hathaway Jr.

Kevin Tramell Gaines Sr., 49, of Shreveport, was convicted of sex crimes against juveniles in Caddo District Court in a bench trial today. Gaines was convicted of three counts of molestation of a juvenile under the age of 13 and one count of pornography involving juveniles. The charges stem from an incident that happened in 2009. He was given 50 years at hard labor for each of the three counts of child molestation, an additional 20-year sentence for the one count of child pornography, and a fine of $10,000. During the trial, the court heard from 10 state witnesses, three of which were victims and two were witnesses for the defense. Assistant District Attorney Jason Waltman prosecuted the case and David McClatchey represented the defendant.

In 2009, a 4-year-old boy initially reported that he had been sexually abused by Gaines, who was married to his babysitter. At the time, police were not able to obtain enough evidence for an arrest. Years later in 2016, the babysitter found pornographic images on her husband's phone, which she turned over to police. Gaines admitted to taking the photos himself and that they were of children. During the course of the second investigation, police found that two more children, in addition to the original accuser had been sexually abused.
