Shreveport-Bossier City Needs a Vax-Fest
I know that during the COVID-19 pandemic, gathering in crowds (like festivals and concerts) is strictly forbidden - but hear me out on this. Seeing that in the Shreveport / Bossier City area we've got plenty of vaccines coming in - what if we throw a huge Vaccination Fest?
I'm not proposing that we all jam inside the Brookshire's Grocery Center (formerly known as the Centurylink Center) and stand shoulder to shoulder waiting for the shot that protects us from one of the most devastating diseases the world has ever seen. I'm suggesting that we take a note from our neighbors to the south in New Orleans.
The Big Easy has had a tough time with the pandemic. In an effort to boost vaccination numbers, officials there organized a festival focused on a a type of shot the city isn't normally known for. They launched the 24-hour event yesterday complete with brass bands, Opera singers, a DJ, and 6,500 doses of the highly coveted Moderna vaccine.
The final numbers aren't in just yet, but as of 2 p.m. Monday afternoon, 1,353 vaccine were successfully administered with another 2,000 appointments to go! That's almost every single vaccine working to bring our state to "herd immunity" levels of inoculation. If we did this in every major city in Louisiana, it doesn't seem like it would take us very long to open the state back up entirely!
