Should Caddo & Bossier Put Halloween Signs In Sex Offender Yards?

Last year, the Sheriff's Office in Butts County, Georgia made national headlines on Halloween when they decided to place warning signs in front of homes at the address of registered sex offenders.

The yard signs are actually an escalation of smaller signs that had been used in previous years. The prior signs were standard paper sized, laminated signs. Like these shown in this Tweet from 2015:

Butts County Sheriff Gary Long told CBS News last year:

"I'm not trying to humiliate 'em or anything like that. Let's face reality: We have a greater chance of children getting run over by a car [on Halloween] than being a victim of sexual assault by a repeat offender. But at the end of the day if, in fact, we had a child that fell victim to a sexual assault, especially by a convicted sex offender, I don't think I could sleep at night."

There are only 54 sex offenders living in Butts County, Georgia, which makes it relatively affordable to execute this Halloween operation. In the city of Shreveport alone, there are over 800 registered sex offenders. Which means that this type of operation in Caddo or Bossier Parish would likely be costly.
