Actor Shia LaBeouf was released from custody this morning, Tuesday, February 17th, a date better known as Fat Tuesday, following a chaotic Mardi Gras arrest in New Orleans.

While the rest of the state was catching beads, LaBeouf was facing battery charges after a dramatic night in the Marigny.

The 39-year-old actor was spotted by several residents of Shreveport in the Big Easy. Local community members shared epic photos of their run-ins with the star, and by all accounts, he seemed to be having a responsible, "grand ole time." Unfortunately, it appears things took a sharp turn toward being dramatically overserved.

According to New Orleans Police, officers were called to the 1400 block of Royal Street around 12:45 a.m. Investigators say LaBeouf became aggressive at a local business and was asked to leave.

Once outside, the situation escalated. Reports state that LaBeouf allegedly struck a victim several times with closed fists, returned after being restrained, and attacked the same individual again.

Judge Simone Levine released LaBeouf on his own recognizance Tuesday morning, though it remains unclear when he must return to court.

Watching the footage circulating on social media and TMZ, it’s hard not to feel that someone should have sent him home hours earlier. For fans who have followed his journey, this is disheartening. Shia has been open about his struggles with addiction and mental health, even entering court-mandated rehab following a 2017 arrest. We always hope for the "redemption arc," but this Mardi Gras, the story took a much darker path.
