Eddie Bonine, the Executive Director of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, released the times and dates for the state football championship games today.

Good news for us, as previously announced last week, this year's games will be played at Northwestern State University's Harry Turpin Stadium in Natchitoches, LA, a much closer drive for folks from our part of the state than New Orleans and the Superdome. This is only the second time the state high school football championship games won't be played in NOLA. The first time was in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

So who do we have from our area that are still contenders for a championship title? First up, we have C.E. Byrd who will be playing Sunday, December 27, 2020, at 6 pm, taking on Catholic - Baton Rouge for the Division 1 title. Calvary Baptist is also making a run at the state Division IV title, taking on Ouachita Christian  Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 1 pm.

Finally, Homer will have to get past Oak Grove this Friday night at 7 pm if they want to make it ot the state Class 1A championship game Monday, December 28, 2020, at 11 am.

Best of luck to all of our local teams! Rep NWLA well and know we'll be cheering you on from a safe, social distance! Speaking of which, here are the LHSAA's guidelines with regard to COVID-19.

Championship dates and times released!
