The New Orleans Saints have agreed to a new 5-year contract extension with Head Coach Sean Payton.

NFL.com reports the terms of the new deal between the franchise and the 55-year-old Payton were not disclosed. Prior to the agreement, Payton was in year 4 of a 5-year deal, worth $45 million.

The long-term deal should put some of the constant Payton-to-Dallas rumors on ice, for a little bit. Over the last few years, constant rumors and reports have indicated that Payton is going to make is way west to take over the Dallas Cowboys. But with a deal that locks Payton to New Orleans for more than half of the next decade, that idea could be shelved.

Payton's only NFL Head Coaching position is his current post in New Orleans, where he has a career 119-74 record, plus his Super Bowl XLIV Championship. Payton was also named the AP Coach of the Year in 2006.
