The ride sharing company Lyft has yet to officially announce plans for service in the Shreveport area, but they have taken a huge step in becoming a member of the community.

It was announced on Wednesday that Lyft has become a Chairman's Circle member of the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce. The Chairman's Circle is a high level membership to the Chamber and means the company paid a minimum of a $1000 in dues.

Erin Smith, the Chamber's Marketing director says that anytime a business becomes a member of the chamber, it shows that they want to invest and help the community.

While Lyft has not yet filed an application to operate in the city, they currently are advertising for drivers. The cost for the permit is $2,500 a year and, the permit holder has to pay a service charge to the city of 25 cents per ride for all rides that start in the city.
