Residents Outraged With Disgusting Brown Water in Haughton Area
Think you'd like to give your kids a bath in that water? How about brushing your teeth with it?
That's exactly what many residents in the Haughton area have been dealing with for the last couple of weeks. Brown, nasty, slightly odorous water straight from the tap.
Not exactly the water you'd like to brew your morning coffee with is it? And this is effecting a rather large area extending from the Forest Hills subdivision off Highway 80 westward towards Espanita and to the north up Bellevue Road.
In a Facebook post late Thursday, June 20, the Bossier Parish Police Jury explained the situation, stating that work crews with Bossier Parish Public Utilities are continuing to flush the water lines for residents who receive water service on the Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District 1, previously named the Village Water System.
Today, crews flushed lines off Winnfield Road, Ball Road, and the Espanita Subdivision. Public Works officials say that aggressively flushing the system will help remove discolored water in the lines and aid in locating the issue.
Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District 1 of Bossier Parish integrated the Village Water System into the parish in March 2023. This expansion encompassed an area stretching east along U.S. Hwy. 80 from Bellevue Rd. to near the border of Bossier and Webster parishes, incorporating several subdivisions, businesses, and sites of new developments.
In their statement above, they mention "aid in locating the issue." Unless I'm mistaken, that means it would be safe to assume that they still haven't discovered the origin of the problem, so this could be around for a while yet.
And once the problem is located, who knows how long it will take to be fixed?
Conversely, there has been no discussion of refunds or water price reduction, so customers are expected to pay full price for this sub-par water.
Just doesn't seem right does it?
